...pre 1914

Not a great deal of ephemera survives from before 1914 but there are some sought after books about the area to look out for including:

'An Historical Account of the Ancient Town of Lowestoft', 1790, Edmund Gillingwater

'History and Antiquities of the Hundreds of Blything and part of Lothingland', 1847, Rev. Alfred Suckling

Although there is not much printed ephemera pre-1914 there are any number of early photographs, sadly many of them unidentified. When time permits I may publish a selection that need identification.

For anyone investigating local history the Suffolk Record Office is a treasure house. They have linked with the National Archives and many of their records are indexed so that you can get an idea of what they hold even if it means a visit to view anything physically.

There are a number of other online research resources available such as the Times Newspaper archive, Census records, etc. that can also help any researcher into local history.

Odd bits of research that I have made will be listed here when I have the time. The first is a Timeline of 10 Kirkley Cliff, Lowestoft from it's build date of 1870 until 1914.
